Regular beatings, nights locked in the cellar. Alex’s childhood in the Westphalian province was characterised by his father’s constant violence. Images of classic masculinity, harshness, no room for compassion or vulnerability. The only moments of peace: family holidays on Norderney. In this documentary, Alex now travels to precisely this place 30 years later with his father in order to finally understand: Dad, why all this?
